Meeting Future Demands for Animal Care

With changes in consumer expectations and the rapid development of animal welfare programs by major food retailers in the U.S., the terms “welfare audits” and “measurable indices of animal welfare” have suddenly entered the lexicon of the North American food animal industries.

Although these terms may be new within the context of North American animal agriculture, the concepts of defining animal welfare standards and then somehow verifying that those standards are applied in practice are not.
