Advancing together toward new opportunities
The progress of AFAC is powered by its expanding membership within the broader industry and farm animal care community this represents.
The LCC provides an opportunity to celebrate this strength while providing fresh knowledge, ideas and insights to drive further momentum into the future.
AFAC Chair Cora Scheele welcomes attendees to the 2019 LCC AFAC Executive Director Annemarie Pedersen reflects on a year of progress and rising opportunities
“The LCC is the highlight of AFAC’s year,” noted AFAC Chair Cora Scheele in her welcome message to attendees. The energy at the conference reflects the energy across the industry and farm animal care community. That’s why we are so pleased to have a very well attended conference. It is so great to see all the seats are filled – we may even need a few extra tables. The strong support and participation of this industry and community, our members, sponsors and partners, all makes this day possible and allows us to do our job as an organization.”
Great strides in championing farm animal care have been made over the years and the pace of progress continues strong today, she says.
“Our livestock sector is constantly changing and evolving. Animal care and welfare remains a top focus and one that is increasingly in the spotlight for everyone from producers to consumers. We are doing a lot of great things. New insights and technology will help us to continue to improve. Let’s roll up our sleeves and work together.”
AFAC is building upon a strong legacy as an organization representing producers and others in the farm animal care community, says AFAC Executive Director Annemarie Pedersen, who also welcomed attendees and in addition provided an overview of the recently updated vision, mission and strategic plan for AFAC.

AFAC works with this community to promote responsible farm animal care through various education, extension, research and communication activities. AFAC stands for advancing responsible animal care through joint efforts with government, the diverse livestock organizations in Alberta and the farm animal care community at large. Within Alberta AFAC shows leadership by bringing producers, industry stakeholders and public together, to foster understanding of animal care and welfare.
“It’s an exciting time for Alberta Farm Animal Care. Collaboration and partnership are our watchwords as we move forward. We encourage everyone here today to engage with us as we look for new opportunities to expand our reach and impact.”
