New Resources on Health of Animals Regulations for Pig Transport
By Dr. Melissa Moggy, Alberta Farm Animal Care
As many of us have heard, recent amendments to the Humane Transportation of Animals regulations took effect on February 20th, 2020. Regulations can be difficult to interpret and understand. We can’t all read legalise!
The Canadian Pork Council (CPC) has created multiple resources for pork producers to help understand the amended regulations. The amendments to the regulations are complex and CPC has done a great job at breaking down the changes and helping determine appropriate practices during transport. This include assessing the fitness of an animal for transport, which can be difficult.
Below is an example of how CPC has simplified the duties of producers and transported on-farm prior to transport.

These resources are available below and are on our Pork Producers page under Transportation.
